Program Description

Students planning to be certified to teach early childhood through grade 6 (EC-6) and special education early childhood through grade 12 (EC-12) will secure an interdisciplinary academic major and meet the appropriate general studies requirements. To be eligible for Texas certification, students will follow the State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC) Core Subjects EC-6 standards and the Special Education EC-12 standards. Students will follow a course of study which includes the following components: (1) General Studies, (2) Professional Responsibility, and (3) and Interdisciplinary Academic Major, which consists of 45 upper-level credit hours. Students must be admitted to the Educator Preparation Program according to the policies set by the College of Education.

Students seeking an education degree without TX teacher certification, who desire to teach Grades EC-6 and special education EC-12 will secure an interdisciplinary academic major and meet the appropriate general studies requirements. Students follow a course of study which includes the following components: (1) General Studies, (2) Professional Responsibility, and (3) an Interdisciplinary Academic Major which includes 45 upper-level credit hours. Students must be admitted into the Educator Preparation Program according to the policies set by the College of Education.
