Associate of Engineering – Admission & Progress Guidelines
Getting Started (First Semester)
· Students are encouraged to earn eMAT, SAT, or ACT scores that permit enrollment in MATH 1405 Calculus I and CHEM 1401 General Chemistry (see dbu.edu/emat).
· Students who do not achieve that level must have scores that qualify for MATH 1303 College Algebra in the first semester.
· Students who place below College Algebra will be directed to another major.
· Students who are “Admitted Probationally” to DBU will not be allowed to enroll in the AE program or take engineering classes until the academic probation is lifted.
For students who did not complete Calculus I in the first semester
· Before the Third Semester
o Students must earn a B or higher in MATH 1303 College Algebra and MATH 1304 Trigonometry.
o Students must maintain a 3.0 cumulative GPA.
o Students who miss either requirement will be placed on academic probation.
o Students who have not met both course requirements and the GPA minimum before the third semester will be directed to another major.
· Third Semester
o Students must complete MATH 1405 Calculus I with a C or better by the end of the semester.
o Students earning below C will be advised to choose another major.
In Any Semester
· If the cumulative GPA falls below 3.0, students will be placed on probation; academic standing is reviewed each semester.
· Students who remain in the AE program after earning below C in MATH 1405 Calculus I will be warned that later courses are more demanding and that transfer opportunities decline without renewed commitment and a 3.0 GPA.
