Description
An immersive exploration of the history and cultural impact of commercial music in the United States from the early 20th century to the present day. Students will examine the emergence and evolution of influential genres, including ragtime, blues, jazz, gospel, country, rock& roll, Latin music, musical theater, contemporary Christian music, and today's chart-dominating styles. Through the lens of technology, commerce, and social change, emphasis is placed on understanding how commercial music reflects and shapes societal movements and industry innovation. The course also analyzes how historical trends inform today's global music market, digital consumption, and artist development.
